Our Business

Started in June 2005, Mercer Island's unique and original dog daycare provides a safe, happy place for your best friend to socialize and stay while you are away. We strive to be a breed apart from the other daycare's. No chain link fences, no bare concrete floors or kennel smells here. Why go off-island? When you entrust your best friend to us, we want you to feel they are staying at their close friends home. We keep the Pack size limited so we can provide one-on-one time with your pet. Its fun to say, "Go home," to our Pack members and watch them run into the playroom or come out to say, "Hi!" to their parents who are picking them up and then immediately turn tail to go back to the playroom to play some more! In response to community request, we added full service grooming in November of 2007. Many 98040 dogs like not having to travel off island for their baths or trims!  Some pop in just to have their nails done. Interesting fact: For a place that caters to canines, our Stylist; Nancy Dewey has seen a fair number of cats, guinea pigs and rabbits cross our entrance for a clip or bath too... All are welcome on our Island's Grand Avenue.

We added our newest border collie: Sage Brush. Born on 08-22-10. She is a tri colored bundle of love. Thank you Jennifer and Kevin Swigert! We are so fortunate to have met you at the Trailing of the Sheep Festival and Sheepdog Championship Trials!

Who We Are

In early 2005, after several family health issues and a very l-o-n-g stretch in the corporate world, I wanted to cash out, move my family to Ketchum, Idaho and let my Border Collie, Biscuits, play out his days. You know how I felt. You know what I mean. A new dawn. A new day. A new life. In May of 2005, we decided to stay put, for now, and looked into opening a pet friendly cafe (Cafe-Biscuits) here on the rock. We've lived on the island for over 25 years and wanted to offer something special back to our adopted home. We opened BARK AVENUE Mercer Island on Father's Day, June 19th of 2005. I have taken care of animals for over 40 years and I am proud to say that many of our pack members have been with us since they were puppies. In November 2007 we added a full service grooming salon to the business. Our stylist; Nancy Dewey provides a safe and clean grooming environment for your best friend(s). Trained in Colorado, Nancy's confidence, skill and professionalism can be seen in her work but also by how at ease her clients are. Some dogs just don't want to go home after the groom!
